ISO 55001:2024 Transition Update

As part of the transition from ISO 55001:2014 to the new ISO 55001:2024 standard, and in accordance with EA Resolution 2024 (56) 07, a three-year transition period was established for the implementation of the revised standard. ISO 55001:2024 was published on 3 July 2024.

The transition has now entered its final phase:

  • As of 31 July 2026, Certification Bodies have ceased conducting initial certification and recertification audits against ISO 55001:2014. New initial and recertification audits are now conducted against ISO 55001:2024.
  • The transition period ends on 31 July 2027. By this date, all organizations currently certified to ISO 55001:2014 must have successfully completed their transition to ISO 55001:2024.
  • All ISO 55001:2014 certificates will expire or be withdrawn at the end of the transition period, regardless of the validity date stated on the certificate.
  • Organizations still certified to ISO 55001:2014 are therefore encouraged to complete their transition planning and implementation well in advance of the 31 July 2027 deadline.

The 2024 edition introduces clearer and more specific requirements concerning decision-making, realization of value from assets, asset management planning, risks and opportunities, data and knowledge management, and life-cycle activities.

With the deadline for initial and recertification audits against ISO 55001:2014 now passed, organizations should focus on completing the necessary updates to their Asset Management System and preparing for transition assessment against the 2024 edition.

LiberoAssurance will continue to keep you informed about the transition process, the remaining deadline, and any further requirements related to the implementation of ISO 55001:2024.
