World Telecommunication and Information Society Day – 17 May 2020

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated annually. 17 of May marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union.

We are living in a society that the role of information is crucial and the meaning of distance is changing due to the fact that technology can bring immediacy and bridge the communication gap that distance is creating, it brings positive exchange and accelerate human progress in many sectors. There are numerous problems that can find solutions and raise awareness via technology, internet, telecommunications.

The spread of information and communications technology and global interconnectedness has exceptional potentials Thus, the purpose of this day is to underline the possibilities that can be brought to societies and economies therefore, every year this special day focuses on a particular theme.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2020 highlights the importance of sustainable development and the theme is:

“Connect 2030: New Information and communication technologies (ICTs) for the Sustainable Development Goals”

2020 Theme highlights the ICT advances for transition to smart and sustainable development. It will focus on specific ICT-enabled solutions and upcoming tendencies for promoting economic, environmental and social sustainability.

“The Connect 2030 Agenda” is a shared global vision for the development of the telecommunication/ICT sector, for abetting economic, environmental and social sustainability, contributing to the five strategic goals:
