World Environment Day takes place every year on the 5th of June, is widely celebrated in more than 143 countries. This year’s theme is “Biodiversity” and Columbia is hosting the event since it’s sustaining close to 10 percent of the planet’s biodiversity.
Given the enormous role that biodiversity plays in sustaining our planet and our lives, its ongoing loss is becoming increasingly worrying. “Biodiversity” theme stresses that it is vital to focus and act against the extinction that one million plant and animal species are facing
The agricultural and industrial revolutions of the last 150 years have led to dramatic and accelerated changes in land use, to the intensification of agriculture, to urbanization, and to the abandonment of land. This in turn has led to the abolition of many practices that have contributed to the preservation of landscapes with rich biodiversity. The answer to these threats requires better policy implementation, coordination between sectors, approaches to ecosystem management, and a broader understanding of the value of biodiversity
Considering the social upheaval that exists worldwide, this year we celebrate by sharing online, why it is time for Nature.
Healthy planet means healthy people
