World Water Day – 22 March 2021

World Water Day is observed every year on March 22, emphasizing the importance of this precious commodity. This day has been established by the UN since 1993 as an opportunity to raise awareness and take action on water-related issues, but also on the need to preserve this valuable natural resource.

According to the UN, global water demand is likely to rise by over 50% by 2040.Water reserves are decreasing, and the need for water treatment for both drinking and industrial use is dramatically increasing. On the one hand, freshwater, the main source of water for use is decreasing and Groundwater pollution is spreading. On the other hand, the daily needs of the population for water seem to increase, while industries also show increased water consumption. The need therefore arises for recycling and reuse of water, in order to make it suitable for drinking or industrial use.

Frequent and thorough maintenance and cleaning of storage tanks and water supply network is also considered particularly important to avoid oxidation and deterioration and to maintain high water quality to the consumer, with the water supply cut off as soon as possible.

The theme of World Water Day 2021 is “Valuing Water”.

“Valuing Water” is about understanding that the value of the water lays in all the different meanings that has for different people. According to the United Nations, “The value of water is about much more than its price. Water has enormous and complex value for our households, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment.” This celebration is aiming at achieving water and sanitation by all for 2030.This year we celebrate world water day in an online event, a discussion about water via the hashtag #water2me.
