World Maritime Day will be celebrated on the 30th of September, 2021.
WMD is designated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and it’s celebrated annually every last week of September. IMO will host a live webinar at 12.00 BST exploring this year’s theme “Seafarers: at the core of shipping’s future” and the topics of diversity, safety, crew change and the environment will be discussed.
The WMD Theme for 2021, reflects the need to raise awareness of seafarers’ vital role they play now and will continue to play in the future of world trade. IMO chosen 2021 to be year of action for seafarers, who are facing unprecedented hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, despite their vital role as key workers for global supply chains.
The 2021 theme is also a continuation of the 2020 theme “Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet” to highlight the role that seafarers will play in ensuring the sustainable future for shipping.
